AKRON — Harvey Dean Burns, 82, Macy, passed at noon Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw.
He was born Nov. 25, 1935, in Perry Township, Miami County, to Claude L. and Marie Tracy Burns. He was married on June 3, 1956, in Akron Brethren Church, to M. Christine Hartman. She survives.
He was a farmer and worked in the Chili and Macy elevators. He then worked and retired from Sealed Power Corp.
He was a 1953 graduate of Gilead High School, where he played basketball and softball. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
Dean was always fond of John Deere tractors and enjoyed collecting them for many years. He was an avid North Miami sports fan, especially boys and girls basketball. He also liked watching auto racing and even raced go-karts.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Burns, Macy; children: Jeffrey (and wife Julie) Burns, Macy; Brian (and wife Michelle) Burns, Macy; Joyce (and husband Gary) Mosier, Silver Lake; Elizabeth Kraning, Denver; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Randy Hartman, Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Dawn Haupert and Marjorie Ihnen.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, in Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. The Rev. Wayne Balmer will officiate.
Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery, Macy.
Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
