Shoppers at Martin’s Super Market can purchase some squash or popcorn grown by Harrison Elementary School fourth-graders, and help Kosciusko County service agencies in the process.
This year, Harrison students grew squash and popcorn over the summer in the school’s "Philanthropy Garden."
It was the third such garden Harrison students grew. Students also studied community resources the United Way has, according to teacher Judy Kinsey.
They learned about education, health and income resources in the county. The 80 fourth-graders then voted on which service agencies to donate the proceeds of the garden to, and the students chose the Salvation Army and Combined Community Services.
Martin’s Super Market agreed to sell the produce at its Warsaw store. The butternut squash goes for $1.99 each, and the popcorn sells for $2.99 a bunch.
Tuesday afternoon, the students (pictured in front of their produce) got a tour of Martin’s, and also some popcorn and drink.
