ETNA GREEN – Harold Walter, 87, of Tippecanoe, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 27, 2012, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. He was born April 10, 1925, in Valparaiso, to William F. and Naomi Sims Walter. On Nov. 6, 1949, he married Irma “Sally” DeWitt, who survives. A retired farmer, he enjoyed driving the tractors, watching his son’s farm and cutting firewood. He was a Gideon. He was a faithful member of Etna Green Church of Christ. He faithfully served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant, stationed in Japan following World War II. Also surviving are six children: Barbara (and spouse Terry) Heckaman, Lansing, Mich.; Michael (and spouse Diane) Walter and Richard (and spouse Sandy) Walter, all of Tippecanoe; Ronald (and spouse Twila) Walter, Monroeville; Becky (and spouse Bruce) Woodward, Warsaw; and Christine (and spouse Alex) Jack, Plymouth; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Elmer Walter, Hannibal, Mo. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynette; three grandchildren, Noah Andrew, Matthew William and Leah Christine; a sister, Viola Weimer; and a brother, Richard Walter. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Etna Green Church of Christ, 206 W. Broadway, Etna Green, with Pastor Jordan Ickes and Chaplain Major Alex Jack officiating. Burial will follow in Etna Green Cemetery. Calling is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the church.
