AKRON – Harold W. Gearhart, 91, of Hoosier Village Retirement Center, Indianapolis, and formerly of Akron, died 1:30 a.m. June 18, 2013, in his residence. He was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Wabash County, to Frank and Edna McPeak Gearhart. On Aug. 24, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pa., he married Bonnie M. Moyer, who survives. He had worked for the Erie Railroad for 20 years. He owned and operated the Akron Supermarket from 1962 to 1976. From 1976-1988 he was a Real Estate Broker. He was a Laketon High School graduate and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942-45. He was a lifetime member of the 3rd Marine Division Association. He had been a member of Akron United Methodist Church. Surviving are a son, Jeffrey (and spouse Sharon) Gearhart, Indianapolis; a granddaughter; four sisters: Dorothy (and spouse Ogden) Alger and Ruth (and spouse Charles) Miller, all of North Manchester; Sharon Meenen, Macy; and Joan (and spouse Tom) Harris, Fulton; four brothers: William Gearhart (and companion Sue) Athens; Dick (and spouse Helen) Gearhart, Winamac; Roger (and spouse Janet) Gearhart, Akron; and Larry (and spouse Donna) Gearhart, Fulton. He was preceded in death by two sisters, a child, a sister and five brothers. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Butch Troke officiating.
