RICHMOND - Harold Hays, 83, of Richmond, died Nov. 14, 2009, in his residence with his family by his side.
He was born Feb. 13, 1926, in Hazard, Ky., to Stephen and Frankie Campbell Hays. He married Delia Joan Gartrell, who survives.
Living in the area most of his life, he was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and Richmond Senior Center and formerly was a member of Syracuse Eagles and Warsaw Moose. He was very active with the Richmond Evening Optimist where he coached for many years. He was an avid bowler.
Also surviving are a daughter, Karolyn (and spouse Richard) Edwards, Indianapolis; two sons, Gary (and spouse Marty Jo) Hays, Eaton, Ohio, and Gregg (and spouse Cathy) Hays, Richmond; two grandchildren, Stephanie (and spouse Jeremy) Hays-Mussoni, Richmond, and Derek (and spouse Melissa) Hays, Fairfield, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Ava and Bella Mussoni; Lillian Hays; Nathan and Quinton Strain; and Katie Edwards; a brother, Glen Hays, Richmond; and two sisters, Maxine (and spouse Ridley) Lifsey, Utah, and Faye (and spouse Jim) Overbay, Florida; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ruby Bane; John, Bernic, Ray and Juanita Hays; Florence Rowe; Lola Wilson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond, with the Rev. Martin Holman officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
