Posted
Harold A. “Bud” Garber, 87, went to Heaven at 2:56 p.m. March 4, 2013, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.
He was born July 26, 1925, to Ralph and Luetta Rouch Garber. On Oct. 6, 1945, in Fort Smith, Ariz., he  married Lois June Prater.
He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II as sergeant (T5) from 1942-45. He was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster for wounds received in battle and a Bronze Star for valor.
After the service he settled down and became the best husband, dad and grandpa any family could ask for. He loved teaching all of the family to roller skate (he and Lois met that way), ice skate, swim, fish, play dominos and checkers. He was never too busy to take the children of each generation to the park to play or feed the ducks. He loved God, family, neighbors and country and all who knew him loved him.
He worked at the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years. He was a member of the Postal Carrier’s union, and a life member of the Brethren Church and American Legion Post 49, both in Warsaw.
Also surviving are four daughters: Judy (and spouse Gary) Lemons, Fort Wayne; Janet (and spouse Terry) Hygema, Greer, S.C.; and Doris (and spouse Darmon) Bush and Penny (and spouse Rob) Adams, all of Warsaw; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Howard Immel officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
