It’s been quite a summer for the traveling community art project “Hands Across Kosciusko,” created to honor the Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce celebrating their 100th year of service to Kosciusko County.
With the help of Kerlin Motors, who provided a flatbed, and Lake City Bank, who has transported the exhibit through the parades and other events in the county, the public has been able to share the fun and enjoy this art project.
Over the summer, the display has been the focus of a countywide game, “Hands on Parade,” using tokens from each community having a parade.
These communities are participating: Leesburg, Mentone, Milford, North Webster, Pierceton, Silver Lake, Syracuse (Summer Fest), Warsaw and Winona Lake. Each of these communities has a separate wooden token with their logo on it. The token for each community is “handed out” during that community’s parade.
If you missed a parade, that community’s token is available at the Lake City Bank branch in that community. Leesburg’s token is available at the Warsaw North branch.
Anyone who collects all nine tokens and brings them to the Chamber office in Warsaw by Aug. 15 is eligible to win a gift package from the Kosciusko County Convention & Visitors Bureau valued at more than $200. The winner of the drawing will be announced by Aug. 30.
But wait, the parades aren’t over yet. The last community to participate in the “Hands on Parade” token game is Pierceton. That parade will be Aug. 6 at 4 p.m.
Themed “Take Me Back to the ’50s” the Pierceton parade will be tons of fun for the whole family. Put it on your calendar and be sure to attend and collect their wooden token.
“Hands Across Kosciusko County” has not only been in eight parades so far this summer, but has been displayed at street festivals, the county fair, several First Fridays, the Optimist Triathlon, Northern Indiana Lakes Festival, the Annual Chamber golf outing, and has a rigorous schedule for the rest of year as well.
“Hands Across Kosciusko” will be featured at Family Safety Day Sept. 10 in the 2011 Patriotic Day Remembrance Parade on Sept.11, several more First Fridays, at the Taste & Trade Expo and more events before the end of the year.
