Hancford 'Hank' Louise Layne

COLUMBIA CITY – Hancford “Hank” Louise Layne, 90, South Whitley, went home to be with the Lord Oct. 9, 2014.
She was born April 23, 1924, in Manton, Ky., to Lee and Nelis Howard Stephens. On Sept. 16, 1950, she married Charlie Layne, who preceded her in death.
She grew up in Manton and graduated from Martin High School with the Class of 1944. In 1967, she and her family moved to South Whitley permanently.
She was a member of First Baptist Church. Besides being a homemaker, she had been a dental assistant in Martin and worked at Whitley Products in 1956 and Chamberlin Products from 1967 until 1968. She was a devoted Christian, loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include a daughter, Priscilla (and spouse Terry) Brandenburg, South Whitley; a son, Charles Colin Layne, South Whitley; two grandchildren, Tera (and spouse Chad) Castle, Tracey (and spouse Rachel) Brandenburg; seven great-grandchildren: Blake, Keaton and Kelsie Castle; Claire, Audra, Julie and Sarah Brandenburg; a brother, Rabin (and spouse Tess) Stephens, Alvarado, Texas; a sister, Virginia Weber, South Whitley; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Layne and Georgia Layne, Martin; and brother, Bert (and spouse Janice) Layne, all of Kentucky. She also was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Hazel Yates, Thelma Miller and JoAnn Richardson; and two brothers, Talmadge and Holt Stephens.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with Pastor Steve Massie officiating. Burial is in South Whitley Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
