Hampton Returns To Run For Prosecutor

Posted

Daniel Hampton will run for Kosciusko County prosecutor in the May 5 Republican Primary election.

In a press release announcing his intention to run, Hampton says he believes that his "philosophy of strongly supporting our law enforcement officers and strict prosecution of criminal offenders more accurately reflects the views of the citizens of this county." He said he does not believe the current prosecutor's office is rising to the challenge of effectively punishing criminals and working with other community officials.

Hampton is a deputy prosecutor in Allen County, acting as a leading trial attorney and case load supervisor. Hampton says Allen County gave him the opportunity to prosecute a high volume of serious criminal matters that are not everyday occurrences in a smaller county like Kosciusko.

In a statement released this morning, Hampton says his experience in Allen County has "intensified my uncompromising belief that criminals must be held strictly accountable for their conduct and their unfortunate victims must be treated at all times with dignity, fairness and respect."

Hampton served as a prosecutor for the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office from 1988-1994. He was previously an associate in the Warsaw law firm of Valentine and Miner. Hampton was raised in Kosicusko County and graduated from Warsaw High School in 1980.

In Allen County, Hampton serves as the section chief of the major felony division, special projects coordinator of community-oriented prosecution and public speaking representative. He is also a criminal justice professor at Indiana-Purdue University in Fort Wayne and Indiana University, Warsaw campus.

Hampton ran for Kosciusko County prosecutor in the 1994 primary and lost to David Kolbe, who went on to win the election.

Hampton says, "In times where the very fabric of our communities is being constantly challenged in criminal activity, the citizens of every community need and deserve a prosecutor who possesses the appropriate philosophy, legal skills and personal ability to effectively and efficiently combat this challenge."

Hampton is the first Republican to announce he will run for prosecutor. Incumbent Kolbe said he will announce his intentions concerning the election soon.
