Half-Day Kindergarten

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:
I am writing to acknowledge my deep appreciation for Warsaw Schools allowing half-day kindergarten to be offered at Washington School this 2011-12 school year. The school system has successfully transitioned to offering full-day kindergarten at all eight elementary schools but was astute enough to accommodate both those children and parents who are not ready for kindergarten to be full day by offering a half-day class hosted at Washington Elementary School.

The class has been a success! Washington is not my home school, but the school has made my son feel welcomed and involved. Mrs. Meyer has proved to be an excellent kindergarten teacher, fulfilling the tough job of keeping these half-day kids up to par with those kids around him who are attending the full-day program. I can say with confidence that my son will move on to first grade at Jefferson next year, raring and ready to learn, thanks to the strong foundation he has received in half-day kindergarten at Washington this year.

I also want to inform parents of incoming kindergartners for the 2012-13 school year that half-day kindergarten will only be offered again if parents step forward to express interest on or before the upcoming kindergarten roundup on Thursday, March 1. If you are interested in seeing this fantastic option continue, please attend your district school’s round up and notify your principal or call David Hoffert’s office (chief academic officer for Warsaw Schools) at 574-371-5098.

Great job, Warsaw Schools, keep up the good work!
