Habitat Executive Director Harman Resigning

Posted
Lori Harman, Habitat For Humanity of Kosciusko County executive director, is resigning after 10 years of service with the organization.
“The past 10 years of my time with Habitat has been extremely rewarding both professionally and personally,” Harman said. “However, I feel God calling me to other avenues in my life and being there for my family.”
She said she will be staying at Habitat for a period of time while a replacement is sought and the transition is made.
Some of the duties of the executive director are to oversee Habitat families, fundraising efforts and growing the organization.
She said her resignation is effective once a replacement is found, and she will be part of the interview process for a new executive director.
Habitat hopes to name a new executive director in August, she said.
Since she has been employed by Habitat, Harman said, there have been 10 homes built.
She said she feels she is leaving Habitat at a good place.
Habitat will be constructing a dual home build with a groundbreaking Sunday on Market Street across from Dollar General.
Rebeca Spears and her son, Carlos Cabrera, will be the homeowners of one of the homes.
The homes are scheduled to be completed when the family will move in Thanksgiving week.
Habitat is still actively seeking a family to occupy the second home. People who are interested in becoming a Habitat homeowner can call 574-269-4101 or stop by the Habitat office, 1702 E. Center St.
She said when she started 10 years ago, Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County was struggling to become known and supported in the community.
“I am proud that we have moved from a simple office in my personal residence to a central office in the heart of Kosciusko County,” Harman said.
Harman said, as executive director, she will miss working with the families the most.
“I am so lucky to count them as my friends because I have seen their growth and how Habitat dramatically changes their life and to be a part of that bonds you for life,” Harman said.
She said when she first started at Habitat there was an all-volunteer board, with no paid staff or office, and she established an office in her home.Six years ago, Habitat’s office was established on Center Street, where the office is still located.
To apply for the position, applicants must submit a resume and three professional references to Habitat For Humanity of Kosciusko County, P.O. Box 1913, Warsaw, IN 46580.
