Habitat Breaks Ground On Milford Home

Posted

MILFORD - Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, March 19 to celebrate the start of construction on a new home in Milford — the organization’s first home build in the town since 1999.
The home is being built for the Schmucker family through Habitat’s Homeownership Program. As future homeowners, they will complete education courses and contribute sweat equity by helping build their new home, according to a news release from Habitat for Humanity.
The property was purchased at a discount from Superior Developing, helping make the project possible. As Habitat’s first build in Milford in more than two decades, this home represents a significant milestone for the organization and a meaningful moment for the community, the release states.
Volunteers, supporters and community members gathered at the site to celebrate the start of construction and recognize the partners who made the home possible. Garet Becker from Wawasee Community Bible Church gave the blessing. Sponsors of this home include Kerlin Bus, Lake City Bank, G&G Hauling, Metcalf Payne & Bell, Kuert Concrete, SYM Financial, Maple Leaf Farms and Warsaw Community Church.
Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building strength, stability and self-reliance for families in the community. The organization relies on private donations, business sponsors and volunteers to construct its homes.
“In 2025, only 3% of our funding came from government sources. The rest is from the generosity of individuals, businesses and churches in our community” explained Ben Logan, Habitat’s director.
Construction will continue in the coming months, and Habitat welcomes additional volunteers and supporters who want to help bring this home to completion.
