H. James 'Jim' Atwood

SYRACUSE – H. James “Jim” Atwood, 70, Syracuse, passed away at 3:36 p.m. June 4, 2014, at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born June 22, 1943, in Omaha, Neb., to Herbert C. and Margot Knudsen Atwood. He married M. Lynn Weisenfluh in Indianapolis, who survives in Syracuse.
He graduated in 1961 from Natrona County High School in Casper, Wyo., and received his Associate of Arts Degree from Casper College and Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Wyoming.
He was a United States Marines veteran. He formerly lived in Casper, Wyo., Phoenix, Ariz., Indianapolis, North Webster and Fort Wayne before moving to Syracuse.
He was employed at Alliance Franchise Brands, formerly Signs Now, for 24 years. He was a former golf professional at Casper Golf Club in Casper, assistant golf professional at Wigwam Golf Club in Phoenix, assistant golf professional at Meridian Hills Country Club in Indianapolis, golf professional for 14 years at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club in Leesburg, and spent two years at Brookwood Golf Club in Buchanan, Mich. before retiring from golf.
He was a member of the North Webster Church of God, American Legion Post 253 in North Webster, Professional Golfers Association, Indiana Golf Association and Lakeland Kiwanis in North Webster. He enjoyed traveling, music, reading, photography, Indian lore, storytelling around the fire pit, golfing with his buddies, spending time at the lake with family, friends, and neighbors, was an avid I.U. and Cubs fan, and had a huge passion for teaching junior golfers throughout the state. He was a man with many friends and a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior.

Also surviving are two daughters, Lisa (and spouse David) Georges, Hollywood, Fla., and Jill (and spouse Matt) Stahl, Fishers; four sons: Jeff (and spouse Melissa) Atwood, Leesburg, Brent (and spouse Tricia) Atwood and Darin (and spouse Michelle) Atwood, both of Fishers; and Joshua (and spouse Ashley) Atwood, Chicago; 12 grandchildren; mother, in Denver, Colo.; four sisters: Barb (and spouse Frank) Barella, Casper, Wyo.; Kay (and spouse Jim) Wagner, Outer Banks, N.C.; Connie (and spouse Gene) Meyer, Houston, Texas; and Beda (and spouse Ed) Collins, Denver, Colo.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Dorothy McChesney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at North Webster Church of God, 301 N. Main St., North Webster, with Pastor Jeff Boyer of the church officiating. Military services will follow Saturday with the North Webster American Legion Post 253 and US Marines presiding.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.
