SYRACUSE - The case of a man arrested for public intoxication and carrying a gun without a permit is still under investigation.
According to a report filed by Kosciusko County Sheriff's Deputy Shane Bucher, Bucher was on patrol near the intersection of CR 300 and EMS D21 Lane near Syracuse when he observed a white male walking in the roadway.Bucher stated he rolled his window down and asked the subject, later determined to be Justin Lord, of 12354 Kern Road, Syracuse, what he was doing.
According to Bucher, Lord said he was walking home and began to walk behind Bucher's patrol car.
Bucher stated as he exited his vehicle, Lord attempted to get into the back seat of the patrol car.
Bucher then asked Lord if he had any drugs or weapons on him, to which Lord allegedly replied he had no drugs on him.
Bucher began patting Lord down. Bucher stated Lord then moved something from his right hand to his left hand.
Bucher stated as Lord raised his hand, he noticed the item was a handgun and Bucher restrained Lord and took him into custody.
Lord told Bucher he carried the weapon because he had been shot at, and that he applied for a gun permit in late January. A search of Lord found no gun permit on him.
The gun, a .9mm Lugar, had a bullet in the chamber and two in the magazine, according to Bucher's report.
The report also states that once Lord was transported to the jail, marijuana was found to be on him.
Lord was booked into Kosciusko County Jail for carrying a gun without a permit, public intoxication and possession of marijuana.
