A couple of weeks ago, I spent some money on something I wanted. Now, I'm realizing all these other things I should have done with it. Life is expensive, everything has a price these days.
To justify what I'd done, at first I said, "Well, I work hard for my money." Yeah, I know. Times like now, I should save.
The economy isn't looking any better. I am very grateful to have an income. A lot of people are depending on their unemployment or have nothing coming in. My family has all of the necessities and plenty extras. There is those who are trying to find a way to pay their rent or buy groceries. Not to even mention Christmas gifts for their kids.
I was in Wal-Mart looking at Christmas decorations and thought about how I have stuff at home and could buy groceries for someone with that money. Or, instead of my family eating out, buy a winter coat or boots for a child who has none.
To add up the amount of our "foolish spending" for the last six months, made me sick. I'd like to not think of myself as materialistic, selfish or greedy. But, boy do I now feel that way.
How much I'm taking for granted. How grateful I should be. How thankful I should be. How blessed I really am.
I also estimated how much money could be raised if every household in Warsaw donated just $5. That's about the cost of two cold beverages from the gas station. It's not a lot, but it sure adds up.
We may not have people living in cardboard boxes in alleys, or starving children who have to eat paste like food, who have no clothes on, but we do have people who could use a helping hand.
Find your warmth however you need to. I know how I'm finding mine this year.
