Margaret Mauzy, of Warsaw, was guest speaker Saturday evening at the annual Kosciusko County Cancer Care Gala fund-raiser. Mauzy told of her experiences in fighting cancer, urged others never to give up hope and touted the efforts of the local Cancer Care group. The evening at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club included a dinner and dance along with a silent auction and a live auction, all to raise funds for cancer victims. A golf outing at South Shore Golf Club Friday also was part of this year's fund-raising efforts. Pam Messmore, accounting chairman for the event, said approximately $97,000 was raised so afar, with more donations expected. Last year's event raised $113,000. This year's total is on pace with or slightly ahead of last year's, Messmore said. Cancer Care funds are used to help defray costs incurred by cancer patients that aren't covered by insurance.
