Griffith Selected As Turkey Creek Trustee

SYRACUSE - Barbara A. Griffith is the new Turkey Creek Township trustee.

Wednesday night in the Syracuse Town Hall, the Republican caucus chose her over the only other candidate, William K. Wight.

Ray Darr, 70, the Turkey Creek Township trustee, died earlier this month of natural causes in his home. He served the township for 15 years. Griffith will finish out his term, which expires Jan. 1.

In her three-minute speech to the caucus, Griffith said she was sorry Darr was "not here to finish his job. I feel he's the best candidate for the job."

Griffith served as the secretary for the township for the last 17 years, she said. "I just think I can do a good job and I'd be good at it."

To win the position at the caucus, Griffith had to receive 50 percent of the vote plus one of the voters present. There were five caucus members present. Each candidate had three minutes to say why they should be chosen as the trustee.

Darr was the only candidate who filed to run for the trustee position in the primary election. Kosciusko County Republican Party Central Committee Chairman Mike Gavin will have to appoint someone to be on the ballot for the trustee position, which could be Griffith if he so chooses.
