BOURBON - Gregory R. Gard, 61, of 788 W. Ind. 14, Rochester, died unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack at 2:47 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008, in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
He was born May 28, 1947, in Warsaw, to Lowell T. and JoHannah Slough Gard.
Living in the Rochester area since 1981, he worked for the street department of the City of Rochester. He was a 1965 Triton High School graduate and a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in Vietnam. He was active in ABATE of Fulton County, and was known as "Gard Dog." He was a member of the Moose and Eagles lodges, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, all in Rochester. He enjoyed and loved motorcycles, animals of all kinds and fishing.
Surviving are Diane Wheadon, Rochester; four children: Heath (and spouse Gwenda) Gard, Middlebury, Fla.; Trina Gard, Bourbon; Laurie Wheadon, Ligonier; and Jim Wheadon, Rochester; three grandchildren; his mother, JoHannah Gard, Bourbon; two brothers, Jeffery (and spouse Joyce) Gard, New Carlise, and Eric (and spouse Janie) Gard, Carmel; two nieces; a nephew; and his beloved dog Rail. He was preceded in death by his father, Lowell Gard, and a sister, Janice, who died only a week ago.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Etna Green United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Lampton officiating. Burial will be in Etna Green Cemetery with military graveside honors.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, Bourbon, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
