Private Willmer T. Meyer, of Company C, 318 Field Signal Battalion 1918, came to life recently through his great-grandson, Mason Meyer, a fifth-grader at South Whitley Elementary School.
In honor of Veterans Day, Meyer shared family artifacts from his great-grandfather with his classmates. Included in the artifacts were a hand-written letter from 1918, a military uniform hat, Army-issued shave kit, uniform buttons and short-pants and a photograph of the battalion.
