NORTH MANCHESTER - The Grand Indiana Auto Tour 2001 will make its second to last stop in North Manchester this year.
North Manchester Town Council President Don Rinearson addressed a letter from the Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles Wednesday, stating the tour plans to stop in North Manchester during the town's annual festival, FunFest.
According to the letter, the tour consists of 25 fully restored vintage automobiles and their owners on a 500-mile, three-day route from Evansville to Auburn "to honor the state's rich automotive history and to pay homage to a tradition of manufacturing excellence that has endured in Indiana for more than a century."
This year's tour begins Aug. 8 in Columbus and concludes Aug. 11 in Warsaw.
The tour will stop in North Manchester Aug. 11 at 11:30 a.m.
North Manchester Parks Director Brian Wagner said the tour is focusing on the DeWitt, and there will be a small program between Market and Walnut streets on Aug. 11. He said 70 vehicles were in the tour last year. This year, there are more than 160 tour participants.
"I thought that was kind of a nice privilege," Rinearson said, "and a good kick-off for FunFest."
