INDIANAPOLIS - The Grace College men's tennis team finished its 1996 season Saturday with a fourth-place finish in the MCC Tournament.
Grace sophomore David Carey won the tournament at the No. 3 singles in a three-set thriller. Carey won in a third set tiebreaker. Triton graduate Ryan Gould was runnerup at No. 6 singles.
Senior Rodrigo Barreira and junior Mike Breedlove were named to the nine-man All-Conference Team by the league coaches.
Grace coach Mike Grill was voted co-coach of the year on the All-Conference Team.
"This was the closest point spread in all of the years I have coached in this league," Grill said. "Grace finished only four points behind team champion Taylor. We actually had a real shot at winning this tournament. This is probably the most improvement that I have seen in a season of any Grace team that I have coached over the years."
