LAKE HUGHES, Calif. - For more than 10 years, students from Grace College in Winona Lake have invested their summers and their lives in service to urban children at The Oaks Camp and Conference Center in Lake Hughes, Calif.
The Oaks is a ministry of World Impact, an inner-city missions organization, and reaches inner-city children, teenagers and adults through summer camps and a full range of activities throughout the year. The camp's guests are drawn from cities all along the Pacific coast.
Summer staff positions, internships and missionary careers at The Oaks have often been filled by alumni of Grace College, including Danielle Mowrey Kipse, Matthew Householder, Adam Cargill, Mike McComas, Renee Roshar, Summer Shipley Avey, Becky Knepper Baldwin, Andria Parker Harshman, Heidi Richeson Amsler, Sarah Pickens, Brandi Raber Wright, Sara Ungerer Royer and Tanie Schroth.
Kim Fluke Meidal and her husband, Jared, currently serve as full-time missionaries at The Oaks. Kim's business administration degree from Grace College aids her in her responsibilities over Camp Grounds Coffee, The Oaks' own java shop, while her minor in art supports her marketing and graphic design duties.
