WINONA LAKE – The Kosciusko Lakes and Streams center at Grace College will host a spring field day in conjunction with National Environmental Education Week, April 14-20. EE Week is the nation’s largest environmental education event and an initiative of the National Environmental Education Foundation. “Our efforts to educate Kosciusko County students about local lakes and streams often fall under this larger umbrella of environmental education,” says Anna Burke, Lakes and Streams program manager. “We wanted to hold our field day on April 16 this year so that we could be part of this nationwide effort to increase environmental knowledge among K-12 students.” An estimated 2,000 schools and organizations and millions of students nationwide will engage in environmental learning during EE Week 2013. EE Week helps to increase the educational impact of Earth Day by creating a full week of educational preparation, learning and activities in K-12 classrooms, nature centers, zoos, museums and aquariums. Environmental education offers educators a way to integrate academic disciplines and stimulate the academic and social growth of students. For their part, the Lakes and Streams center will bring students to the shore of a local lake for a day of water education including water quality testing and fishing. Kosciusko Lakes and Streams is a center at Grace College that focuses on applied research, education and community collaboration.
