WINONA LAKE – Jared Burkholder, chair of the history and political science department at Grace College and director of the Office of Faith, Learning and Scholarship, has been appointed a Snowden Fellow at the Young Center for Pietist and Anabaptist Studies at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania. During the fellowship, he will examine the history and legacy of German pietism in America since the Great Awakening. “I would like to expand my previous work on the Morovians to include other groups and how they have impacted religion in America,” said Burkholder. “The long-term goal is to publish a book. In the short term, I will be giving a lecture here at the Young Center on how Pietists have been looked upon as both heretics and heroes of the faith.” Burkholder co-edited “The Activist Impulse: Essays on the Intersection of Anabaptism and Evangelicalism” (Wipf and Stock, 2012) and “Becoming Grace: Seventy-Five Years of Christian Higher Education at Grace College and Theological Seminary” (BMH, Forthcoming) and has written articles in several periodicals. He will be presenting a lecture for the public Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Young Center.
