WINONA LAKE - The Grace College Art Department announced the fall courses in its Children's Art Encounters program, open to all area students.
n Re-Cycling Into Art will meet Monday afternoons, Nov. 9, 16, 23 and Dec. 7 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
In this class for first grade and up, students will embark on an exciting adventure, creating art out of everyday items. Learn to find value and beauty in nature, trash, and forgotten objects. Look deeper and see things in a new light. Be prepared to stretch, challenge, and develop your creativity, and produce awesome works of art.
Student masterpieces from the series will be exhibited at the closing reception Dec. 7 from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Lead teacher for the class is Rose Dreisbach, sophomore art education major from Manila, the Philippines.
n Pottery for Kids will meet Wednesday afternoons, Nov. 11, 18, Dec. 2 and 9 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
In this course for grades kindergarten and up, students will use air-dry clay and hand-built methods to create vessels and figures. They will explore using coils, slabs, textures and more. They can even make Christmas gifts for family and friends. Be sure to wear old clothes or bring an art shirt.
Student work from the series will be showcased at the closing reception Dec. 9 from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Lead teacher for the class is Michelle Sweeten, sophomore graphic design and French major, O'Fallon, Ill.
Teaching assistants this fall are freshmen Jessica Hill, Upper Marlboro, Md.; Michelle Ritschard, Mishawaka; Dustin Fletcher, Indianapolis; Lindsay Garigen, Fort Wayne; and Amber Wilks, Allen, Mich.
All classes will be subdivided into appropriate age groups and will meet at Mount Memorial Hall on the Grace campus.
Six hours of instruction and all materials are included in the $49 tuition, and siblings can take $10 off. Take advantage of this great opportunity while Mom and Dad run holiday errands.
The Art Encounters series has been sponsored by the Grace College Art Department since spring 1995.
