WINONA LAKE, IN - Grace College jumped out to a 13-0 lead and went on to destroy IU-Northwest 92-47 Tuesday night at Lancer Gymnasium.
Despite 15 first-half turnovers, Grace led 45-27 at the break and then outscored the Blast 47-20 in the second half.
Freshman Lawrence Burnett was leading the Lancers with 16 points before twisting his ankle midway through the second half. Freshman Ryan Bricker ended with 16 points and freshman David Richmond ended with 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Freshman Matt Moore and junior Caleb Gilmer each had 12 points. Gilmer added five assists.
Despite the easy win, head coach Jim Kessler was not completely happy with his team's play.
"Our points of execution have not become habitual yet," Kessler said.
"As a result, we have not been consistent."
Kessler did say, however, that his players responded to a small tongue-lashing at halftime.
"They responded to a kick in the pants and played with greater intensity in the second half," Kessler said.
Grace (1-1) will host NAIA No. 9 Tri-State Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Tri-State beat Grace 86-63 in the championship game of the Warsaw Optimist Club Tip-Off Tournament.
