Grace College's Mu Kappa Hosts 11th Annual 'Taste Of The World'

WINONA LAKE - In a complicated world, you can still travel simply - by visiting 30 different nations without leaving Winona Lake.

The Eleventh Annual Taste of the World food and culture festival will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Grace College's Gordon Recreation Center on Kings Highway in Winona Lake.

Guests can "travel" from culture to culture, sampling authentic food and beverages prepared by members of the Grace College chapter of Mu Kappa International. Enjoy world music, art, media, hands-on displays, dancing, games and more provided by students and guests from various organizations.

Cultures represented will include Alaskan, Argentinean, Austrian, Bosnian, Brazilian, Central African, Chinese, Czech, English, French, Filipino, Gambian, German, Greek, Hawaiian, Honduran, Hungarian, Indian, Indonesian, Irish, Japanese, Kenyan, Korean, military, Scottish, South African, Swedish, Swiss, Russian and Taiwanese.

In addition to the festival, the dynamic Latin Christian band Contagious will perform. The group is based in Florida and features musicians from Colombia, Honduras, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. Their third and latest release, "Vamos Pa'Lante (Let's Go Forward)", features fresh, joyous compositions in a variety of musical genres.

There will be two performances so guests will be able to choose to attend the concert first and then the festival or vice versa. The first performance is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m and the second show is from 8 to 9 p.m. Both concerts will be held next door to the festival at the Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church on King's Highway.

The annual food and culture fest, held in conjunction with Grace's annual Conference on Mission, drew more than 500 visitors last year.

Wednesday night, adult and youth groups and children's clubs are welcome; contact the coordinator below for group discounts. Admission, which includes both the festival and the concert, is $8 for adults, $4 for students, free for children 6 and under, and $25 for a family. Tickets are available at door or can be purchased in advance at the Tree of Life Bookstore in Winona Lake.

The event is sponsored by Grace College's chapter of Mu Kappa International, a worldwide organization of Third Culture Kids.

TCKs are students who grew up as expatriates, with parents in international ministry, business, the military, diplomatic corps and other occupations for which they lived overseas. While they have connections with both their home and host cultures, they find their sense of belonging in a third culture, with others who have global experience.

Founded 22 years ago, Grace's chapter includes nearly 80 students from 50 countries, who bring a wealth of worldviews and perspectives to our community. If you have questions regarding the event, contact Amy Keith, Taste of the World coordinator, at 574-372-5100, Ext. 6022, or keithac@grace.edu
