U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar (R-IN) congratulated Hudsonville, Mich., resident Ashlee Lane and Aurora, Ill., resident Bailey Standish for completing internships in his Northeast Indiana Community Service Center.
The women, seniors at Grace College in Winona Lake, interned during the fall term of 2009."I loved interning with the Senator," Lane said. "It was something new and challenging every day. We held many events to benefit the Fort Wayne community, and the staff felt like a second family."
Standish said, "I feel honored to have been able to learn from the talented and passionate staff at Senator Lugar's Community Service Center. This semester is one I will remember for a very long time."
Both women are majoring in communications and minoring in pre-law.
Lane is a member of the Millennial Scholars Academy, the Alpha Chi national college honor society, the Communication Society and the theater. She plans to attend law school after she graduates from Grace College in 2010.

"My staff appreciated the opportunity to get to know Ashlee and Bailey this fall," said Lugar. "Our office relies on interns' work, energy and excitement. Spending a summer interning provides them with unique public policy insights and educational experiences."
Lugar offers internships in his Senate offices and Foreign Relations Committee office throughout the year. Applicants are encouraged to have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and are college sophomores or juniors interested in public policy, politics or foreign relations.
