Grace College Offering Three Environmental Degrees

Posted
WINONA LAKE - With the introduction of two new environmental majors, Grace College is now one of the first Christian colleges in the nation to offer its students three separate environmental programs.

The two new majors, environmental science and environmental studies, will begin this fall. These majors, along with environmental biology, which was introduced in fall 2010, were all developed by Grace's faculty to help students explore and discover environmental issues from a variety of career-path options.

For students who want to pursue academic research or a graduate degree, Grace's Dr. Nate Bosch recommends the environmental biology major. Environmental science, he said, may be more suited for students who still want a strong scientific foundation, but wish to "hit the ground running" in an environmental career immediately after college, as it includes some behavioral science and political science courses.

Finally, Bosch said, the environmental studies major is most appropriate for those who want to focus more on grass-roots advocacy, starting a non-profit organization, or something similar, as this major also provides some business organizational tools instead of some of the more specialized science courses. In addition to creating specialized majors for these different academic and career options, Bosch personally mentors each of his environmental students and provides them with applied learning opportunities. Bosch is also director of Kosciusko Lakes and Streams, a community water-quality program located at Grace College.
