With a motto of “Character, Competence and Service”, Grace College hopes to build character, exhibit competence and provide service as a United Way Pacesetter. The United Way Pacesetter campaign is held annually to help United Way raise funds it will use for all the programs it provides. Each year, local companies take the lead and serve as Pacesetters. Randy Polston is serving as the key leader for Grace College. Grace College students are familiar with United Way as many serve as volunteers for the annual Day of Caring. The reason behind Grace College becoming a Pacesetter? “The needs in our community are great and Grace College wanted to make a difference,” said a statement from the school. Grace’s pacesetter campaign will coincide with the school’s “Kick-Off” meeting Aug. 16. Activities will be planned around the them of “Live United.” Local businesses have donated door prizes to kick off the campaign. Other incentives are also being discussed. With 165 employees, Grace College has set a goal of $6,000 and a 26 percent participation rate. Last year, as a non-pacesetter, Grace College had 15.6 percent participation. If this year’s goal is met, the senior administration team will cook and serve all the employees breakfast. While enjoying breakfast, the team will also entertain with a skit. Polston recently spoke at a faculty and staff meeting to share United Way information. United Way staff and clients will join Grace College during the Aug. 16 kickoff luncheon. A PowerPoint will be used to education everyone on various agencies. Grace College has been a community institution for 75 years.
