Grace Artist Takes Top Spot In Art Exhibit

WINONA LAKE - Grace College junior Ryan Pickart took top honors at the second annual Northeast Indiana College Student Art Exhibition featuring the work of students from IPFW, Grace College, Manchester College, Huntington University, the University of Saint Francis and Ivy Tech Community College.The exhibit is currently on display at Manchester College's brand new Gallery G. Participating schools take turns hosting the exhibit each spring.

The juried exhibition of 34 pieces is sponsored by the Higher Education Arts Consortium of Northeastern Indiana. Altogether, 98 pieces were submitted by students from the six participating institutions. Participants from Grace include:

n senior Tabitha J. Amos, daughter of Rev. Andy and Dori Amos of Lancaster, Ohio

n senior Hannah R. Brenneman, daughter of Joe and Rene Brenneman of Larwill

n sophomore Jesse Dompier, son of James and Deborah Dompier of Eagle River, Alaska

n senior Jennifer M. Flowers, daughter of Edward and Cathy Flowers of South Bend

n junior Ryan Pickart, son of David and Diana Pickart of Lowell

n senior Andrea Wick, daughter of Steve and Becky Hudkins and Greg and Lori Jenkins of Elkhart, and wife of Tim Wick of Winona Lake

Pickart took first place for his Everyday Heirloom still life and honorable mention for his Self-Portrait. Both pieces were oil on canvas. In last year's inaugural exhibit, Pickart took second place.

Other winners included Maria Coward of IPFW, second place with her colored pencil portrait; Alex DeVinney-Stoner of IPFW, who took third with a digital artwork; and the remaining honorable mentions to Trista Watson of Huntington for a stoneware place setting, and Jeremy Arroyo from Ivy Tech for his pyrography.

The six awards were announced at the artists' reception on Feb. 23.

The event is designed to showcase talent, build resumés, network students and promote the sharing of artistic ideas and inspiration. This year's juror for the exhibition was Charles A. Shepard III, executive director of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art.

Hours at Manchester's Gallery G, which debuted last fall on the upper floor of the College Union, are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and noon to 3 p.m. Sundays. The exhibit closes March 13. Admission is free.
