I would like to comment on the question I have raised in the title of this editorial.
In fact the government starts with a presupposition that is wrong. The government starts with the presupposition that human beings are naturally good and that to reach our highest potential that all you have to do is to provide the best environment that is out there.
The problem with that presupposition is that it does not match with reality. Man is not basically good, but is naturally bad. As the saying goes. "You can take the lion out of the jungle, but you cannot take the jungle out of the lion."
Unless there is a transformation from the inside out there will not be a change of outward behavior. Only the church with its transforming message of the gospel is able to achieve that.
So in respect to the homeless shelter, unless that is accomplished there will no changed lives or purpose for living.
Let's put all the finger pointing aside and unite behind this proposal of Eric Lane (who has a passion for the homeless) and get what is needed for the good of the community.
