Any federal official, whether appointed or elected, who is rightfully convicted of a felony, misdemeanor, willful neglect of duty, or gross and hazardous incompetence in the performance of their job duties that results in death, injury, property damage or loss of liberty should be subject to one or more of the following remedies depending on the severity of the offense: imprisonment, monetary fines, manual labor, deportation, forfeiture of pensions and/or assets, loss of citizenship, etc.
Another remedy that should be added is being permanently barred from holding elected and/or appointed office at the federal, state and local levels. This is a standard that should be applied to current and former officials depending on the statute of limitations for such offenses. It is also a standard that would better help in reforming the current Washington, D.C., no-consequences-for-my-actions-or-decisions culture.
