SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Behind a strong game from 2009 Wawasee graduate Taylor Goshert, the Indiana Wesleyan Lady Wildcats won the NAIA Division II National Championship Tuesday night. Playing at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa, No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan used a 20-1 second-half run to put No. 6 Davenport (Mich) away 61-43. The title is IWU’s first since 2007, and Goshert was a big reason for it. In the win, Goshert led all scorers with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while also posting five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. IWU finishes its season at 36-3. Entering the tournament as one of the four top seeds, IWU’s road to the title began with a 61-31 win over Point Park (Pa), followed by a 49-27 victory over No. 19 Grand View (Iowa) in the round of 16. In the Elite Eight, the Lady Wildcats dispatched third-seeded Briar Cliff (Iowa) 69-57, before knocking off top-ranked Morningside (Iowa) in Monday night’s semifinal, 65-64.
