With the approaching holiday season, Kosciusko County Sheriff Rocky Goshert is reminding citizens to be aware of local scams.
Sheriff Goshert realizes that often individuals will feel more generous at this time of year and will be more voluntary with donations.
The sheriff advises the public that not all individuals are legit and that, when in doubt, call to verify.
There have been some recent reports within Kosciusko County and the Warsaw area of elderly citizens becoming the victims after an individual comes to their door with a "terrible" story of a family tragedy.
If their story is true, there are several local groups and services that can provide assistance for an individual or family if it is validated.
Sheriff Goshert reminds the public to call the city-county dispatch center at either 574-267-5667, 574-457-5757 (Syracuse/North Webster area), or 574-372-9511 (Warsaw city limits) for questions or concerns; Combined Community Services, 574-269-6019; Kosciusko Salvation Army, 574-267-5361; or the Better Business Bureau, 800-439-5313.
