SYRACUSE – Alcohol and water did not mix Saturday evening as Adam Wenger, 22, Goshen, was arrested on Lake Wawasee for operating a motor boat while intoxicated. Indiana Conservation officers responded to a sinking boat with multiple people in the water after 7 p.m. Officers observed the boat speeding across the lake, which is under an idle speed restriction. The boat was visibly sitting very low in the water, according to a Department of Natural Resources press release. When Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Lake Patrol Officer Ken Troutman attempted to stop the speeding boat, Wenger came to an abrupt stop, causing water to come in over the bow. Wenger then threw a passenger overboard and capsized the boat by attempting to accelerate. ICO and KCSD rescued seven people from the water. No one was injured. One passenger, Hayden Schumaker, 20, Goshen, faces charges of possession/consumption of alcohol by a minor.
