GOP Caucus Set For June 7 For County Council District 1 Seat

GOP Caucus Set For June 7 For County Council District 1 SeatMike Ragan, Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee chairman, has scheduled a caucus to replace Doug Heinisch on the county council.
The caucus will convene in the Syracuse Town Council Chamber, 310 N. Huntington St., Syracuse, at 6 p.m. Monday, June 7.
Heinisch, who represented District 1, submitted his resignation from the council on Tuesday, effective that day. He cited his work schedule as the reason for his resignation.
District 1 includes Turkey Creek and Tippecanoe townships, the eastern part of Plain Township and a little more than half of the northern half of Washington Township.
Eligible members of the caucus are the Republican precinct committee members of Kosciusko County Council District 1 who have served continuously from 30 days prior to the date of the commencement of the caucus, according to a news release from Ragan.
A Kosciusko County Council District 1 member shall be elected by secret ballot of the majority of the members of the voting caucus to fill the vacancy in the office.
Declarations of candidacy are available at the office of the Kosciusko County Clerk of the Circuit Court, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw, and must be filed with Ragan no later than 72 hours prior to the commencement of the caucus.
Eligible candidates must reside in Kosciusko County Council District 1, be a Republican in good standing and not have a felony in their past.
Candidates will be allowed a maximum of three minutes to address the voting caucus.
