Gone Too Far

Editor, Times-Union:

Now I've heard everything! The conservatives have gone too far, this time. The President of the United States was extremely disrespected, as were many school children by the radical conservative bullies in our area and country.

My grandchildren were cheated out of hearing an inspirational speech by President Obama, due to the hysteria put out there by conservatives. People were actually weeping about their children being indoctrinated? Oh, the horror! And "Keep your hands off my kids"? What the heck is that? This man is the president for crying out loud! How dare you!

Whether you like it or not, this man actually won an election. Besides, I thought all the far-right folks were too busy hoarding their guns and ammo, getting ready for the day the feds come to get them, to worry about a little speech to school kids. They are really afraid that this administration will be successful implementing his vision of hope and change for our beloved country! He would include everyone, not only the "good people" in the democracy! Yep, that'll make them all mad!

Things are moving too fast for them. They can't complain about the federal government doing nothing, now. Yes, looking for ways to take better care of everybody's basic needs is surely like pure communism, socialism, fascism! Really? They worry that next week we will be learning the Goose-Step, I suppose. How Ridiculous!

I am having a lighter moment trying to picture Rush or Ann Coulter as the Sgt. Shultz character - "I know noth-ing!" Those evil "lefties" have been lying in wait, Ah, Hah, Hah, Hah!

These fears are so far out in left field - I mean right field, I can only think of two reasons for them. First, they know President Obama is really intelligent, and may have many a good idea, in contrast to the previous bunch and second, they simply are poor losers.

Even I, as much as I disliked Bush, would never dream of showing such disrespect to the president. I would be all for a talk encouraging commitment, and hard work in school. Aren't those still some ideals of the "good people"?

I've read a lot about the Constitution in our paper lately. I'm thinking you should read the whole document before you quote it for your cause. It actually says that the Congress can't make a national religion. So before you get all tingly, you should re-read. Now I've recently learned in our paper that the reason our country is great is the Christian religion. That's nice. I missed that revelation. My goodness, such arrogance! Somebody better tell all those non-Christians that have died for our country, that we really didn't need them. Sorry for their luck!

The conservatives worry about the "big government," low taxes, and would fight for their Second Amendment rights to the death. Then, they'll line up to vote for an alleged "pro-life" candidate, whose proponents want to make abortion illegal. We would need to police every doctor's office. That sounds like "big government" to me. You can't have it both ways. It would be OK for the feds to monitor what goes on in every woman's uterus, but at the same time, don't mess with our guns, or teach our kids to be concerned about others? Better not teach my kids to "help" the president - not in our public schools!

I suggest that all you "good people" pray for our country, fervently, but not because of the actions of the president!
