Goldmine Pickers Releasing Second CD

Posted
Goldmine Pickers is a four-piece band weaving together roots and inspiration in bluegrass, jazz, folk and Irish traditions to create an energetic new space in Americana music.

With acoustic performances, the group has entertained audiences in intimate clubs and expansive concert halls, at festivals and on live radio shows with interplay between guitar, mandolin, upright bass, a fiery fiddler and vocal harmonies.

Lead vocals are shared between Lukas Simpson (guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, harmonica) and Jay Lapp (mandolin, guitar), with contributions by Sean Hoffman (fiddle).

While focusing mainly on their own music, the ensemble collaboratively arranges traditional bluegrass and old-time and Irish fiddle tunes.

The band has been charming audiences on their tours through the Midwest and on the East coast since 2003. Soon after the band formed, they were the opening act for the Del McCoury Band. Since that time, they have been performed alongside such acts as the David Grisman Quintet, Yonder Mountain String Band, Old School Freight Train, Hot Buttered Rum String Band, The Emory Lester Set, IBMA award-winner Michael Cleveland and others.

Songs from Goldmine Pickers' independently produced self-titled debut album, released in July 2004, were played by Americana reporting stations across the country, from Texas to South Carolina, New York to Montana.

In late 2005, the band was contacted about using their song "Conversation's Free" to be used in a Nissan commercial to advertise the Nissan "Note." While you won't see the ad in the States, the video is available for viewing at www.myspace.com/goldminepickers

This was followed shortly with the band's 2006 tour of Ireland and Northern Ireland, with stops at several "integrated schools" in Northern Ireland, the BBC Radio in Belfast, The Port-a-down Folk Club, traditional music pubs "The Ceili House" and "The Railway Bar" in Lurgan, "The Moving Stair" in Boyle, Roscommon and others.

In late 2006, with the addition of bass player Brian Cook, the band has been further refining their sound.

After a busy summer of performance, rehearsal and recording, a second album release, "Goldmine Pickers: Lonesome Gone" is scheduled for Nov. 10 at LVD's Concert Hall in Goshen. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be reserved by calling 574-825-7785.

Also look for Goldmine Pickers on Nov. 4 on the Back Porch, WVPE, 88.1, and Nov. 9 on The Globe, 91.1. They will be talking about and debuting some of the new tracks on the upcoming album.
