Girls dream of prom, wearing a dress that matches their personality and style.
Unfortunately, not every high schooler can afford to go. That's why, for the third consecutive year, three young women have once again organized The Glass Slipper Collection.
According to Katy Cobb, dresses will be taken until April 29. They can be dropped off at Combined Community Services, 110 E. Prairie St., Warsaw, or Amanda Scroggs' classroom at Warsaw Community High School.
"She came to see me and said KEY Club wanted to be involved," said Cobb.
The Glass Slipper Collection will accept any gently used dress that a girl could wear to prom. She said they request that dresses not have fur.
Lacey Lisenbee said, "The purpose (of the Collection) is to give prom dresses to girls who can't afford them. It's every girl's dream to go to prom, and this helps with that. ... It makes our heart all fuzzy to do it."
The Collection is open to any girl in Kosciusko County. Girls in need of a prom dress will receive an invitation, and then get invited to attend an event April 30 to pick their dress, according to Ashlyn Vitoux. Cookies and punch also will be served.
"They get the experience of every other girl and try on dresses, and hopefully find one that matches their personality," Vitoux said.
"We would appreciate any donations, dress or monetary," said Cobb.
"They can also give shoes and jewelry," said Lisenbee.
Applebee's and Ruby Tuesday also are providing gift cards for meals for prom for the girls. Lisenbee said if other restaurants would like to participate and provide gift cards for meals on prom day, they would be appreciated. The organizers are working on making contact with other area restaurants.
Fiesta is providing hair styles for the girls for prom, and Elder-Beerman is donating the use of clothing racks for the dresses.
If enough money is donated, Lisenbee said, tuxedos may be available for male students.
Peggi Lisenbee-Wright, CCS director of client services and Glass Slipper Collection advisor, said it takes a lot of time to organize the Collection and set up.
"I appreciate how they're willing to share God's will and care," Lisenbee-Wright said. For more information or to make a donation, call CCS at 574-269-6019, Ext. 22.
