Giverny Fitness Offering Free Online Classes During ShutdownSince the coronavirus pandemic is keeping Giverny Fitness Center’s members from coming to it, the downtown Warsaw business is bringing its exercise classes to them, and anyone else who wants to work out from home.
And the online classes are all free while Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb’s stay-at-home order remains in place.
Giverny owner Kelly Britton said the fitness center for the past two weeks has been offering free online classes, with its schedule “pretty much the same” as it was before the business had to close due to the pandemic.
“People from all over the area, and then also people that even used to live in the area that have moved away, are joining in. We’ve got (people) from Arizona, Florida, Oregon, Texas and even Italy. We’re getting a lot of positive feedback that it brings energy, gets to see each other’s faces and just gets some endorphines going,” Britton said.
Classes include TRX, High Intensity Interval Training, yoga, Kihara Resistive Stretch, Zumba, Fusion, Body Sculpt, “just about everything you can think of, we’re just keeping it going,” she said.
There are multiple classes daily, except Sunday.
The schedule can be found on Giverny Fitness’s Facebook page, on its app or website at www.givernyfitness.com.
Every week the schedule is updated, and on some days, there are night classes.
“We’re even offering classes for low-impact for people, because we have a lot of women come in that are older, around the noon-time classes, so we’re trying to keep those going. We had one start this week, and we’re going to put another one on next week so they can keep moving, too,” Britton said.
Britton is one of the many instructors who have volunteered their time to continue the classes.
The courses are for men, women and kids, and she said more people are willing to try the online classes because they didn’t want to come into the fitness studio before.
“Anybody can do it. It’s for everybody. The nice thing about what we offer is that, we always offer, always offer, in every single class, modifications so if you’ve never exercised before, we start you off super slow,” Britton said.
For those watching the online videos from home, she said they just need a little space; something soft to lay on like a mat or carpet; good shoes if they’re doing a cardio class; and a couple of hand weights if they’re doing a strengthening class. It all depends on what class the person is taking part in.
Giverny opened its doors 11 years ago this month. Once it’s able to open its doors again, after the stay-at-home order has been lifted, Britton said, “The neat thing is that this has opened our eyes to how great online classes are, so we will continue to offer online classes as a package.”
While the online classes won’t be free anymore at that point, she said they’ll keep be offered because Giverny staff have seen the need and want for the classes.
Currently, the classes are offered through Zoom, though Britton acknowledged that might change down the road.
“So if someone wants to try it at home, you just download zoom.com, and you enter the code,” she said. The code is 130324310, and people can join in a class at the time it’s offered. The courses are live, not recorded, but Britton said a person can participate in a class for however long they want.
