SAVANNAH, Ga. - A group of five middle school-aged Girl Scouts started their summer break with a trip to Georgia, and a visit to the birthplace of Girl Scouting.
The Girl Scouts included Holly Waldkoetter, Haley Waldkoetter, Amanda Clennon, adult leader Cathy Hanft, Eva Hanft and Kendra Konieczny.
The girls from Troop 817 raised money for the trip through several resourceful methods, including conducting a group garage sale, selling Girl Scout cookies, making and selling Christmas craft kits and babysitting.
These Warsaw area Girl Scouts learned about the early days of Scouting and about Juliette Gordon Lowe's life after establishing Girl Scouts in the U.S. in 1912.
At the birthplace, the Girl Scouts participated in a heritage visit and a special interest session called Sisters of the Palette where they created art done in styles popular during the Victorian era. They also spent a day on Tybee Island.
