Girl Scouts Collecting For Goodwill

Posted
SOUTH BEND - Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana are teaming up with area Goodwills to provide much needed donations.

The first annual "Bag It Up" Campaign began Sunday and goes through April 30. More than 14,000 Girl Scouts of all ages in 22 counties will be collecting donations for Goodwill from family, friends and neighbors. This campaign is part of their initiative to help local communities while fostering positive character development.

"The Girl Scout program is about learning to discover, connect and take action. Community service plays a key role in a Girl Scout's leadership experience. The Goodwill 'Bag It Up' Donation Drive provides an opportunity for leadership while making a positive change in the community," said Abby Schoonaert, director of leadership program services for Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana.

Each Girl Scout who participates in the campaign will receive a Good Turn Day patch from Goodwill.

"We're just so pleased to work with Girl Scouts and appreciate the effort they are making for Goodwill and our community. This campaign comes at a good time for us, because donations are down and we need their help," said Pat Cichos, campaign coordinator and executive assistant for public relations and development, Goodwill Industries of Michiana Inc.

Donations will be distributed to local Goodwills in three participating regions: Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Northeast Indiana and Southwestern Michigan. Anyone in these communities may participate with a donation by calling the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana South Bend Service Center at 574-273-3021 or 800-272-7755.
