Editor, Times-Union:

The year-long wait for your favorite cookies is almost over. Girl Scouts from Elkhart, Kosciusko, Noble and Whitley counties will start taking orders for those delectable Girl Scout cookies starting Jan. 11 through Jan. 28. Delivery begins the week of Feb. 25, and if you failed to order in January, Girl Scout troops will be conducting direct sales until March 25.

We again will see old favorites like Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Shortbread, as well as the increasingly popular Lemonades. If you prefer a low-calorie option, check out the newest addition to the Girl Scout cookie line - Cinna-Spins 100 calorie packs.

"The $3.50 for each box of cookies not only buys a great treat," says Susan Kuntz, products sales director for Indiana Lakeland Girl Scout Council. "It allows girls to learn all kinds of important skills because they are involved in every aspect of the sale from setting goals, working as a team and deciding how to spend the money they raise."

One troop is raising money for an educational trip to South Dakota. Troop 180 meets at the Goshen Boys and Girls Club and is made up of girls grades 4-6 from all the Goshen City schools. Kara Noland, membership marketing specialist for Southern Elkhart County, said, "This is a trip many of the girls would not otherwise be able to take so it is exciting to see them work so hard as a team to make it happen."
