Editor, Times-Union: I’m writing this letter in response to a recent letter. The letter was uniformed idiots. First of all, I’m not going to respond to your hatred of President Obama and your fellow man. I can only suggest a good dose of the teachings of Jesus for that. There were so many distorted facts in this letter it’s hard to know where to start. The USA doesn’t contain more oil than the Middle East combined. We actually rank 13th or 14th depending on all sources I researched. (You may want to look up the definition of research). Saudi Arabia actually has two-thirds of the worlds oil reserves so they rank number one. Canada ranks number two. So you were kind of close with the USA. (Canada borders the USA to the north in case you didn’t know.) We consume 24 percent of the oil being produced while holding only 4 percent of the world reserves. So you see we can’t drill our way out of this mess. (You may want to get someone to help you with the math). You said that not one new well has been drilled under Obama. Wrong again. There were tens of thousands of new permits last year. Over 4,000 were on federal land alone. Another fact, gas prices did hit over $4 per gallon under Bush. I paid as little as $0.69 per gallon under Clinton. I checked several sources for this info. I used figures from API which stands for the American Petroleum Institute. This site is owned and operated by American oil companies. Who or what were your sources? Now to the comments about President Obama wanting to tax the rich and give it to people who don’t want to work. You called it the “redistribution of wealth” (This comment told me where you were getting your info). He’s only asking the rich to pay their fair share. He has said that he wants to reduce the deficit and rebuild our crumbing infrastructure. Let me explain to you how this works. It may surprise you when I say that bridges and roads don’t build themselves. It takes wrecking crews, excavating crews and construction crews to make it happen. (Are you still with me?) You see this creates jobs and helps our economy along with keeping the country productive. We need good infrastructure to remain competitive in the world. Every time I hear one of your sources say the stimulus package didn’t create any jobs I know it’s a lie. I work in sales and travel a lot. You couldn’t drive through a town last year without running into construction. That was stimulus money at work. You may want to look for sources other than Rush and the Fox entertainment channel. With so many sources for info at your finger tips, there’s no excuse for ignorance. Oh, by the way. We agree on very little, but I do agree that there are a lot of uniformed idiots.
