Georgia Woman Tries To Obtain Prescriptions FraudulentlyA Georgia woman allegedly involved in a scheme to acquire prescription medication fraudulently in a number of states was arrested recently.

Veronica Watkins, 22, of Winder, Ga., was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 11:34 p.m. Tuesday for counterfeiting and resisting law enforcement. Her bond was set at $5,000 surety and $250 cash.

Court documents filed Friday list the charges against her as two counts of attempt to acquire a controlled substance by fraud, a level 6 felony; and resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.

At about 7:17 p.m. Tuesday, Warsaw Police officer Justin Lewis was dispatched to Walmart about a complaint by the pharmacist that a customer was attempting to pass fraudulent prescriptions for controlled substances. The pharmacist told Lewis that a female customer – later identified as Watkins – had presented two prescriptions for controlled substances but when the pharmacist verified the prescriptions with the doctor, it was learned they were fraudulent.

The pharmacist asked Watkins to return to the pharmacy in about 15 minutes to pick up the prescriptions. She left the store and the pharmacist called police.

Shortly thereafter, Lewis saw Watkins walking toward the pharmacy. When she saw the officer, she began running toward the store’s exit. Lewis chased after her and yelled for her to stop, but she continued to flee. She was captured in the Walmart parking lot.

Watkins told officers of a scheme to obtain prescriptions by fraud that she and three others had been executing from Georgia to Indiana. She also admitted to having just picked up controlled substances at CVS in Warsaw, also using fraudulent prescriptions.
