George L. Cook, 78, of Carencro, La., and a long-time resident of Etna Green, died Aug. 28, 2009.
He was born Nov. 4, 1930, in Turrell, Ark., to George and Ester Cook. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Alice G. Ulmer Cook, who died in 1996. He is survived by his wife Ola Mae.
He was owner of Cook's Repair, Atwood, and was a deacon of Calvary Baptist Church, Carencro.
Surviving are five children: Lorraine Amerikanos, Leesburg; Samuel Cook, Tracy, Calif.; Andrew (and spouse Patricia) Cook, Etna Green; Amy (and spouse Marlin) Heinlein, Plymouth; and Janet (and spouse Rich) Walls, Warsaw; 23 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and three siblings: Betty Lane, Turrell; Joy Chalk, South Haven, Miss.; and Jerry Cook, West Memphis, Ark. He was preceded in death by three children: Joan Sanford, Mountain Home, Ark.; Rebecca Collins, Vincennes; and Joseph Cook, West Memphis; and a granddaughter, Melanie Cook.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Etna Green United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Lampton officiating. Burial will be in Etna Green Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
