George E. 'Gordy' Bumbaugh

George E. "Gordy" Bumbaugh, 88, of Leesburg, died at 1 p.m. April 28, 2007, in his residence.

He was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Warsaw, to Judd and Ethel Deerwester Bumbaugh. In 1939, in Omaha, Neb., he married Geraldine Damns, who survives.

A lifetime Warsaw resident, he was co-owner of Dahms & Yarian Accountants. He was a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran, serving as a tailgunner on a B-29 bomber with the 315 Bombwing. He served from June 17, 1942, to Dec. 12, 1945. He was a 51-year member of the Rotary and the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow in 1976 and 1988, and a lifetime member of American Legion Post 49 and the finance officer during construction the building. He also was a member of Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association, Indiana Society of Public Accountants and American of Numismatic.

Also surviving are an adopted son, Stephen K., Charleston, W.Va.; two brothers, John Bumbaugh, Warsaw, and Barney Bumbaugh, North Manchester; two sisters, Joan Phillips, Louisiana, and Lois Lolly Franklin, Montana; three grandsons, Stephan K. Bumbaugh Jr. and Jimmy D. Womble, both of Leesburg, and Shane Paige, Minnesota; a granddaughter, Shannon Hammonds, Warsaw; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his adopted daughter, Sharon, and a brother, Max Bumbaugh.
