NORTH MANCHESTER - George A. Airgood, 90, of North Manchester, died at 1:05 a.m. Oct. 21, 2010, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born Dec. 15, 1919, in Wabash County, to C. Gordon and Cora Aughinbaugh Airgood. On Feb. 7, 1942, he married Virginia R. Fleck, who survives.
He was a farmer all of his life except for a few years testing cows for the DHIA. In 1984, he retired from farming to a small orchard south of Servia. He was a lifelong member of New Hope United Church of Christ, Bippus, holding many offices and becoming an ordained deacon. He was also a member of ABC for Wabash County and a member and past president of North Manchester Lions Club for more the 55 years and was active in promoting and producing their fish fry. He graduated from Chester High School in 1937. He moved to Peabody Retirement Community in 1998.
Also surviving are a son, Dick R. (and spouse Dee) Airgood, Greenfork; a daughter, Sally (and spouse Robert) Gamsby, Wabash; a brother, Tom Airgood, North Manchester; a sister, Gladys Airgood, North Manchester; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a grandson.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Peabody Chapel, North Manchester, with Pastor Larry Holderbaum and the Rev. Sue Babovec officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
Calling is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Peabody Chapel.
