Eisenhower Elementary School will have a new principal this fall, but it's a familiar face.
Monday night, the Warsaw School Board approved for Chris Gensinger to be Eisenhower's principal. Currently, Gensinger serves as the assistant to the superintendent at the central administration office. Gensinger was Eisenhower's principal before moving to the administration office about two years ago.
Gensinger's current contract as assistant to the superintendent expires June 30. His principal contract starts July 1. Bill Landrigan is Eisenhower's interim principal now and will finish out the school year at Eisenhower.
In announcing Gensinger's return to Eisenhower, Superintendent Dr. Craig Hintz said the move was not something he wanted to happen. Gensinger put in 22 years at the district office, Hintz said. During the last few months, however, he said Gensinger had an itch to return to Eisenhower.
As part of the budget reduction efforts, Gensinger's position at the central administration office will not filled, Hintz said.
He thanked Gensinger for serving in the central administration office. "We will miss you sitting here at the board meetings," Hintz told him.
Gensinger thanked the board for the opportunity to work in the central office and get his feet wet. He said he learned a lot, and the decision wasn't easy.
"I love the peace brought back to the corporation" with Hintz becoming superintendent, Gensinger said. He said he likes Hintz's style, calmness and direction.
While appreciating all he learned at the central office, Gensinger said he also appreciated the opportunity to return to the job he loves.
School Board President Deb Wiggins thanked Gensinger for sticking with Warsaw Community Schools.
Gene England, board member, said he's known Gensinger for many years. He said he and Gensinger were principals at the same time.
"I always liked you," England said.
In December, then Eisenhower principal Melissa Rees moved to become Claypool's principal. Claypool reopens this fall after all the construction is completed. Landrigan became interim principal in January.
